Take at the bottom edge of older vehicles and you may see rusted metal and ragged holes. That's likely caused, in part, by road salt. It's corrosive, damages paint, and promotes the growth of rust. It's critical that you wash off rock salt to prevent damage.

Salt is cheap and readily available. That's why many municipalities depend on it for keeping roads safe during the winter. It lowers the temperature at which water freezes. This keeps the snow and ice from freezing over when temperatures drop in the 20s. While it is convenient, it is also a major reason why cars rust out.

Make it a point to clean the road salt off at least every week. When temperatures get above 40°F, take it to the car wash. Be sure to rinse the entire underside. When you need car care during the winter, come to the service department here at Jaguar Clearwater.
